Project overview

After a severe windstorm moved through the Salt Lake Valley, the homeowner discovered missing shingles, lifted ridge caps, and water stains beginning to appear on the ceiling. A professional inspection confirmed widespread wind damage that qualified for a full roof replacement through the homeowner's insurance policy.

Zion Contracting coordinated with the roofing contractor to safely remove the existing solar system before construction began, ensuring the reroof could be completed without damaging the panels or electrical equipment.

Our approach

We met with the homeowner shortly after the insurance claim was approved and documented the existing solar installation before any work began. Every panel, rail, attachment point, and electrical connection was carefully labeled and photographed to ensure a smooth reinstallation.

Once the roofing contractor completed the new roof, our team returned to inspect all mounting locations, replace worn hardware where necessary, and reinstall the solar system according to current manufacturer specifications.

What we did

  • Safely deinstalled the complete solar system before roofing began.

  • Documented panel layout, wiring, and equipment locations.

  • Coordinated scheduling directly with the roofing contractor.

  • Inspected roof penetrations before reinstalling the mounting system.

  • Reinstalled all solar panels, racking, and electrical equipment.

  • Tested system performance and verified normal production before project completion.

The result

The homeowner received a brand-new roof through their insurance claim without sacrificing their solar investment. The solar system was restored to full production, the new roof remained completely watertight, and the homeowner had confidence knowing both systems were professionally installed and ready for years of reliable service.

“Zion Contracting responded quickly after the storm — professional, clean work, and everything was finished faster than we expected”
